Angsana Laguna Phuket – Luxury Hotel Review [updated 2024]

From the impressive open-air large foyer to the oversized bedrooms and its position on the lagoon the Angsana Laguna Phuket never fails to impress.  My first visit was back in 2004 with my young family and they still have very fond memories of the pool, the artificial beach and the yummy Thai food. Back then the hotel was under the Sheraton brand.

My return visit this time was to attend a travel conference – TBEX and I was keen to revisit to see how the renovations and the new branding that had taken place in 2011 had gone.

Location of the Angsana Laguna

The resort is located in Laguna Phuket, which is a large resort complex located on the west coast of Phuket. The resort is just a 20-minute drive from Phuket International Airport and is located near several popular tourist attractions. The Angsana Laguna holds a great position on the white sand beach of Bang Tao Bay.

There is so much to do and see in Phuket – here is our recommended 5-day Phuket itinerary.

This is my Angsana Laguna Phuket luxury hotel review.

Arriving at 12 pm, 3 hours before check-in I found the reception busy. With a lovely Thai welcome, I was asked to take a seat in the large open-air reception area and enjoyed a refreshing drink and a cold towel.

After a short while, I received the keys and was whisked away on a golf cart to my room.  The Angsana Laguna Phuket is a large resort with 409 rooms spread out over three floors.  Golf buggies are available to move you around the resort.  For those of us who love exercise the walk from your room to the reception or dining areas will keep you fit.  Don’t worry about the heat of the day or that quick rain shower the covered walkways provide all the shelter that you need.

I could not remember the room I had with the family back then and was taken aback by the size and the grandeur of the large room that I was given with its own private sitting area, balcony with lagoon views and large sunken shower.

Always a lovely touch when you arrive at a hotel is a welcoming fruit platter.

Time to explore the grounds and have lunch before meeting up with colleagues who were also here for the conference.

Accommodation at the Angsana Laguna Phuket

There is a variety of accommodations available for 2 to 6 people, sizes vary from 40 sqm to 224 sqm:

  • Laguna Room – King
  • Laguna Room – Twin
  • Laguna Grand Room
  • Laguna Beachfront Room Twin
  • Laguna Poolside Room King
  • Laguna Poolside Room Twin
  • Angsana 1 bedroom Loft
  • 2 Bedroom Island Suite
  • 2 Bedroom Island Duplex
  • 2 Bedroom Pool Suite lagoon view
  • 2 Bedroom Pool Suite beach view
  • Grand Angsana

What impressed me on entering my Laguna King Room was the calming purple colour used throughout the room from the artwork, to the cushions on the l-shaped lounge, floor coverings and wall coverings, picking up the purple tones from the fresh orchid flowers scattered throughout the room.  A special touch was the aromatherapy burner already lit emitting a fragrant perfume.

All accommodations are equipped with modern amenities such as air-conditioning, ironing board and iron, coffee pot, LCD TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi.

Angsana Laguna Phuket Facilities

For those of us who still love to exercise in the gym when we travel the Angsana Laguna Fitness centre has all the usual weight machines plus Thai boxing, pilates and yoga classes.

There is a golf course.  Water sports include windsurfing, sailing and stand-up paddle boarding.

Pool at Angsana Laguna Phuket

The pool is a 323-metre free-form pool.  The artificial beach was my favourite area just to relax or you can drift lazily down the river or just lay back and float in the water. It is so safe for young children here.

For kids, there is a kids club with indoor and outdoor play centres. The kids even have their own spa.

The adults too can enjoy the Angsana Spa and Gallery.

There is also a shuttle boat service between the hotels on the lagoon and to the small shopping village where you can buy grocery items, shop at boutique shops or enjoy a casual meal.

Dining at the Angsana Laguna Phuket

There is no lack of dining options at the Angsana Laguna Phuket.

A large breakfast buffet with western and Asian choices is located at the Market Place on the ground floor. There is even a kid’s breakfast section with fruit skewers, donuts, bread, cakes and scrambled eggs.  With views out over the lagoon, it was hard to leave breakfast on those days that I did not have the conference.

At lunchtime, you will find me enjoying some of the best vegetarian spring rolls at Poolside with a chilled Leo beer.

Xana beach Bar at Angsana Laguna Phuket
Xana Beach Bar

Xana Beach Bar was great for happy hour and catching up with friends. Open from 11 am to 10 pm for drinks and light meals.

Other dining options:

Azura Restaurant – open from midday for Italian cuisine

Loy Krathong Bar – from 11 am to midnight for drinks and international snacks

Baan Talay – Dinner on Monday and Thursday from 6 pm to 10 pm

Bodega & Grill – Daily from 11.30 am to 11 pm for international cuisine

Atoll is open from 4 pm to 10 pm for dinner.

Conference Facilities at the Angsana Laguna Phuket

From what I saw and experienced Angsana Laguna handles conferences well. There were around 300 delegates for the TBEX conference.  Two full days of presentations and break-out meetings and workshops. At morning and afternoon tea there was such a vast choice of food and drinks. With some of the yummiest donuts I have tasted and even the chance to try Durian and Fig ice cream which I didn’t think would be a perfect match but turned out it was, we were well looked after by conference staff.

Conclusion

After spending a week at the Angsana Laguna Phuket I can highly recommend the location, the hotel, the dining and sporting options and the very comfortable accommodation.  I have already recommended the Laguna resort to friends and family.
